The HBPA of Ontario and Woodbine Entertainment Group jointly sponsored a new Groom Elite Program which was introduced in 2016.
This program worked in two ways: it teaches anyone who is interested in starting a career in the Thoroughbred Racing Industry as well as increasing the knowledge of people already working in the field.
The program is a combination of two programs, the Introduction to Grooming and the Groom Elite 101.
A 16 hour short course that prepares for new workers for entry level jobs such as hot walker or groom.
The “flagship course” that is an extensive 40 hour course conducted over several weeks and is the only nationally recognized groom certification program for those with some job experience. It focuses on important horse care skills that are essential in effective racing grooms.
