This is a service that the HBPA of Ontario provides in order to promote career development opportunities for individuals working in the thoroughbred horse racing industry.
Those interested in writing the Assistant Trainer or Trainer test must have at least five years experience working on the backstretch. Once a candidate has submitted the complete application, it then goes to the Trainer’s Testing Committee for review. Please note that the application form must be submitted three weeks prior to the scheduled test date.
The candidate’s application is reviewed by the Committee and is assessed on the merits of the candidate’s history and experience. Approved candidates are then informed that they are eligible for testing. We recommend that all those approved to write the tests study the current AGCO’s Rules of Thoroughbred racing and the CPMA’s Schedule of Drugs booklets; which are available on the AGCO and CPMA’s websites.
